Dress for Success is a global not-for-profit employment charity, focusing on providing career and life support to women, and they have recently partnered with Aleph here in New Zealand.
As the Executive Manager for Dress for Success Auckland (DSFA), Robyn Moore works every day to empower women and to find more opportunities and independence in their life.
With a wide range of experience in training, capability development, sales, marketing and event management, Robyn understands what it takes to run a successful organisation.
She has worked across nonprofits for years, with a special focus on developing women’s and children’s access to healthcare, food and education.
Here is Robyn on the Aleph partnership, and how finding independence starts with feeling confident.

What is the mission behind Dress for Success?
A.
Dress for Success was founded in 1999 by a lady called Nancy Lubin. She had been left $5000 by her grandfather, and she wanted to make a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable women. Today, Dress for Success is a global charity with 146 affiliates across 22 different countries – all focussed on empowering women towards economic independence and seeing them thrive in work and in life.

How did you end up working for Dress for Success?
A.
After a long career in both the corporate and nonprofit world, I think what drew me to DFSA was the opportunity to positively impact a woman’s life, to make a difference every day whether in a large or a small way.
Q.
How has Covid-19 & the global living crisis affected your community? What are you seeing right now that needs to be shared and talked about?
A.
We have seen an increase in the number of women needing our services. They are struggling with mental health concerns, they have changed living situations and lost jobs. It is estimated that 13 million women have been displaced from the global workforce since the start of the pandemic, and that it will take 132 more years to close the gender pay gap (World Economic Forum). High inflation rates are disproportionately impacting women because they are statistically making less – and this is a huge problem that needs to be addressed.

How do corporate relationships help you tackle these problems – and what does it mean to work with a beauty business like Aleph?
A.
Partnering with other like-minded corporates enables us to grow and develop the overall experience we can provide for our clients. Solving these huge problems often starts with the small details, and bringing the work we do to life in a very personal way. Partnering with Aleph means that we can confidently provide our job seeking clients with beautiful makeup that completes their interview-ready outfit.
For us, it’s about helping women be the best version of themselves – and that’s where Aleph’s makeup plays an important role for the work we do.

What are your beauty resolutions for this year?
A.
I will absolutely continue to focus on my skincare routines, and that includes the products I put on my face, using sunscreen, my diet and getting exercise. Beauty, for me, starts with using products that actually nourish the skin, which is why I love using Aleph Serum/Primer.
Q.
A huge part of Dress for Success is helping women prepare for job interviews. What are your top tips on preparing your appearance when you’re wanting to impress?
A.
Wear something that makes you feel good. When you look in the mirror, you should look and feel like the best version of yourself – enough to say to yourself, “wow I got this”.
Always make sure your hair, nails and clothes are clean and tidy. If you’re unsure about what kind of clothes to wear, try checking the organisation’s website to get a sense of what other employees wear.
I also think that adding light makeup is helpful to help you feel elevated and confident. My go-to look is usually Mascara, a swipe of Aleph Cheek/Lip Tint, and a bit of gloss on the lips. Especially with the way Aleph is designed, it’s amazing how such a small amount of makeup can make a huge difference.
